ABOUT ME

I was brought up to go a local Anglican church when I was a child. Later I started attending our local Evangelical Anglican parish church. During the 1970's I first encountered the charismatic movement. In the early 1980's I felt a call to ordination.

After training for ordination at Cranmer Hall St John's College, Durham, I was ordained in Rochester Cathedral. After a curacy (assistant minister post) at Tonbridge Parish Church in Kent I became Rector of Willingham & Rampton in Ely Diocese.

In 1994 I was appointed as Vicar of St Philip & St James Chatham (Pip & Jim's) back in Rochester Diocese. Pip & Jim's in English terms is a relatively large parish in English terms. It has had a significant evangelical teaching ministry since the 1960's

I was Vicar there until 2009. During those 15 years I encountered a number of people who complained of spiritual abuse from local independant charismatic churches. Encountering these refugees led to my research and my PhD and book, Importing Faith. In 2009 I became the DDO of Rochester Diocese and Vicar of Shorne. After six years I moved to be Vicar of Christchurch Bushmead from where I retired to concentrate on my writing. I am now working full time on research and writing that will lead to a new book on the New Testament and its teaching. My M.A. was awarded by the University of Kent and my Ph.D by Kings College London.
